Where do I live?
In the greatest city in the world, Winnipeg
(and yes there is a reason that we have the nickname Winterpeg, it's cold!! But it's okay because we're tough!), in the greatest
province in the world, Manitoba, in the greatest country in the world, CANADA,
sorry to all those that live in other countries but I AM CANADIAN!
How Old Am I?
I'm 29. My birthday is on December 24th and I was born in
1974.
What do I do for a living?
I've worked for a wonderful organization for the last 8 years.
I am a supervisor for a program that supports adults with developmental disabilities and no I am not a patient person
and there is no need to be, that is just a stereotype. Don't believe everything you hear because stereotypes are horrible
things. Instead you should learn more, get to know people, and then you can understand that people are people and everyone
is different, there is no need for labels.
How long have I been an Elvis fan?
Since 1994. I had never watched figure skating before in my
life and really had no interest in ever doing so. I was more of a football, hockey, kinda girl and didn't like the music
or the costumes involved with figure skating. Yes, I was one of those people that thought it was not a sport and that
it was boring. Then one day I was channel surfing and as I flipped past a channel I heard a Van Halen song so I stopped
and that was when I saw him, skating to "Girl You Really Got Me Now" and wearing a t-shirt and jeans, in a matter of minutes
he had destroyed every preconceived notion I had of figure skating. I asked a friend about this skater named Elvis Stojko
and she set me up with some video tapes of him. By the second tape I was huge fan and I've never been the same since,
lol.
What is my favourite Elvis moment?
In 1995 I went to see the Elvis Stojko Tour (it was the last time
it ever came to Winnipeg by the way, we can only hope it will return one day). After the show I saw a huge group of
people standing in the parking lot so I went over to see what was going on. I was informed that they were waiting for
the skaters so I decided I would wait too. Elvis was the last skater out of the building. I had asked a girl
standing next to me if she could take a picture when I asked Elvis to sign my program. I was anxiously awaiting my turn,
I was standing next to the tour bus door farthest away from Elvis. He made his way toward the tour bus signing autographs
as he went, he was just a few feet away from me, and as he reached the bus someone from inside yelled that it was time
to go and Elvis needed to get on the bus. Elvis started to climb the steps and I didn't have his autograph. Before
I knew it I had yelled out as loud as I could "Elvis!" and to my shock he turned around, then I was so stunned I didn't know
what to say but managed to mumble out "Can I have your autograph?" I couldn't believe it, he actually got off the bus
and signed my book, the girl next to me took the picture, and Elvis got stuck there for about 15-20 more minutes (oops!),
lol. It was a great night and I have my autographed picture in a frame on my wall with the photo of me and Elvis stuck
right in the corner.
What competitive program that Elvis has done is my
favourite?
I think it would definitely have to be Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story.
What exhibition program that Elvis has done is my
favourite?
This is a very tough one so it's a tie, "When You Love A Woman"
and "What I Like About You".
What is the most unbelievable thing I have ever
seen Elvis do?
Definitely would be winning the silver medal at the '98 Olympics.
To this day when I watch my tape of the '98 Olympics I can't believe he skated with a torn groin muscle, how did he do that????
What are some of my other interests?
Music is my other big interest, it is an extremely important
part of my life. I used to sing competitively and I play a little bit of piano, a little bit of organ, a little
bit of alto saxophone (although I don't know if I could remember much anymore, lol), and I just started learning to play guitar
about 2 years ago. I did okay at the Organ but have forgotten almost all of it, I never did master the piano and saxaphone
(I didn't take the time) but was gettting pretty good at the guitar (I need to start practicing again) and plan to learn more
of it. Singing was about the only thing I would say that I mastered musically, and after I finished with competitions
I sang at a few weddings.
I love going to CFL (very important that it's not NFL) football
games and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers had better be winning (although I admit it has been tough for them since Matt Dunigan
left the team in 1995, he is my all time favourite quarterback), and spending time with friends is also important to me, "SHOUTS
OUT TO THE BREAKFAST CLUB!".
What are my favourite tv shows?
I am a tv fanatic!! I love the reality shows, Survivor, Big
Brother, Amazing Race, American Idol, and Canadian Idol. I also love Trading Spaces. My favourite comedies are
definitely Friends and the Osbournes (so, so, funny). My favourite dramas are Charmed, ER, and NYPD Blue (Mark-Paul
Gosselar was definitely a good addition to that show, nice as- err-butt, lol). Then there are the shows where one minute
you're laughing the next minute you're crying, Third Watch and Judging Amy.
What are my favorite bands/music artists?
Like I said before music is extremely important to me and therefore
I have a TON of different bands and solo artists that I like. My newest fave is Billy Klippert and his band
Kovered in Lies (you can find out more about them on the 'Another Great Canadian' page), everyone absolutely must check them
out because they are incredible!! Ok as for the rest of my favourites, I like a lot of different music but my fave
is the alternative, rock, metal stuff. Bands like Bon Jovi (big time fave of mine), Nickelback, Three Doors Down, Smashing
Pumpkins (and now Zwan), Five For Fighting, Coldplay, Green Day, Papa Roach, Jimmy Eat World, Linkin Park, Limp Bizcuit, Offspring,
Edwin McCain (although I guess he's closer to the pop side), Ozzy Osbourne (liked him since my sister introduced me to him
at the age of 6 with 'Blizzard of Oz', okay well she didn't exactly introduce me to him it's more like I stole her record
and listened to him but potato, potatoh), Black Sabbath (goes along with the Ozzy thing), Def Leopard, Live, P.O.D., Puddle
of Mud, Tea Party, Moist, Sum 41, Foo Fighters, U2, Journey, Our Lady Peace, AC/DC, Poison, Motley Crue, and
Metallica. Then the bands that fit into the others category (pop, rap, everything else) such as Barenaked Ladies, Avril
Lavigne, Moxy Fruvous (great Canadian band, very comedic, my favourite song is "King of Spain"), Cranberries, Oasis, Eminem,
and Bob Marley. I also like just about any kind of 80's music but especially Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, and Joe Jackson. I
also like to listen to some broadway musical stuff and every now and then some classical (but I have to be in the right mood).
And my favourite band of all time is definitely The Beatles.
What are my favourite movies?
I Am Sam will always be my favourite I think (if you haven't already
seen it please rent this movie, I think it is about the most positive portrayal I have ever seen a Hollywood movie do of a
person with a disability). I also like My Big Fat Greek Wedding (gotta love a Winnipegger that hit the big time), Marvin's
Room, Sixth Sense, Rat Race (hilarious! check it out if you haven't already), Pulp Fiction, and all three Austin Powers movies.
What are your current addictions?
Well there's Elvis, Billy Klippert, Kovered in Lies, the Kovered
in Lies message board, lol, and Starbucks Caramel Frappacino!! I love them!
That's it! That's me in nutshell!
